Ready or not Christmas is us just around the corner. The kids at Mooseheart are thrilled to receive the gifts from the 3 state area that support the MD DE DC House in Mooseheart. Members go over the call of duty to donate money and gifts at Christmas for the Kids.
Holidays at the lodge are always an enjoyable time. Members making plans for the holidays and getting ready to welcome in the New Year.
It needs to be said that hurricane "Sandy" could've been a lot worst than it was and hopefully everyone came through without to many problems. Our lodge was opened as a shelter for those who were afraid or just didn't have a place to stay. There were approximately a dozen people that used our lodge for protection. We managed to get blankets, candles and bottled water donated to the lodge from surrounding merchants.
Spookyfest, our adult Halloween party, was a blast. Award for best costume was won by Vickie Edwards. Cash prizes were given away every hour along with great entertainment from "Big Daddy".
Our November activities had something for everyone. The second and fourth Friday of the month we continued with "Big Daddy" and his mix of Karaoke. The second and fourth Saturday at 2:00pm there's a Pool Tournament in our Social Quarters. November the 3rd Anne Barnes received her College of Regents honors from the lodge. There was a good turnout for her special day.
The 10th of November we had the group "Don't Look Back" playing hits from the 50's 60's and Doo Wop music. We had a great turn out and everyone danced all night to the music provided by the band.
November 18 Buster and Rene out did themselves once again with their Chicken Salad and Oyster Dinners. We served Thanksgiving Dinner on the 22nd in our dining room. It was opened to everyone.
December 22 will be our Kids Christmas Party from 12-2pm. The lodge is in the planning stages for a Christmas Party for our members that same day, keep an eye on the bulletin board!
The Officers have approved a special day for the ladies of the Chapter. On Saturdays they will have an opportunity to have discounts on their beverages and food discounts if they're a higher degree
( Academy of friendship or higher ). Just show your card to the bartender and the discount is yours.
Application fees will be waived for any new members of the LOOM, until January 2, 2013.
The bad news now is most of members are aware of the slot machines being stopped by the ATF Commission. They were shut down on the 14th of November and at this present time we're not quite sure what happens now. This law that they are using is 18 years old. Why now? The state of Maryland and the state of Pennsylvania have passed new gaming laws that opens up slot and card games state wide. There were bus loads of people from the two states that used our gambling facilities. The revenue is down and the state is looking to get all of the monies from the slot machines and any other machine that pays off in tokens or gifts such as money, prizes etc. Little do they know, that private organizations such as your Moose Lodge, the America Legion , VFW and other organization that have the slot machines, help the community. Organizations like ours do so many community service programs and donations to families that have gone through a tough times. The money that is donated to the lodges through the machines help set off the cost of these expenses the each lodge occurs. You can help by voicing your opinion to your Congressman and Senators.

Our lodge will have to make drastic changes in the next coming month to defer this lost in revenue. Hopefully our lodge and the other private clubs can unite and win at least part of the battle with our joint efforts.
Moosette of the month is a past Senior Regent. On November 3 we celebrated her College of Regent recipient ceremony. She helps with the labeling of our Newsletter every month and donates food for the bereavements that the lodge hosts Always willing to give opinion when asked and when not asked. I will not tell any short jokes, but just to let her know congratulations to Anne Barnes on her big day!
My selection for Moose of the Month is Jimmy Cook. Jimmy is the Inner Guard for the General Membership Meeting. Jimmy stepped forward and has painted several pieces outside, along side of the building in the Turkey Shoot area. He has painted the steps that lead into the lodge. It's a eye catching appearance with the steps painted redwood. He also painted the Jungle Jim set out in the playground area and all of the doors entering the lodge. Thank You Jimmy!

December's Committee Activity night will honor Community Service. I am very proud of the hours of community service our co-workers donate in their communities. Our chapter records and submits community service hours, miles and monetary donations to Moose International on a monthly basis. If you donate your time to a special cause in your community, please let the chapter know so that our chapter can maintain its "Superior" rating for community service. Also the chapter has made a $100.00 donation to The Dover Interfaith Mission for Housing (DIMH) & Shepherds place for their help with the September Nascar fund raiser. Bonnie Henry & Sandy Rayne presented the check.
Candy making is in full swing. Sandy Rayne and her crew are out at the lodge every weekday making candy and there is a crew that comes out to help on the weekends. This boxed candy makes an excellent holiday gift. You can purchase the candy in the social quarters or you can go online to http://mdmoose.org/lodge/lodge 0203 Camden-Wvoming.htm to print out an order form for the candy. I want to thank all the co-workers and lodge brothers who are helping with this fundraiser.
What a nice day we all had to celebrate with Ann Barnes on the 3rd of November as she received her College of Regents along with Carol Eckenbrecht which received her Red tassel & Janice Wyant who received her red stole. Congrats to ALL of them. Thank you to all chapter members who helped with a wonderful day.
December 22 is the date of the annual children's Christmas party from 12- 2pm . All children and grandchildren of our members are invited to enjoy an afternoon of fun with a special visit from Santa. Admission is one (1) canned good per child. These canned goods are used to supplement the holiday food baskets that the lodge prepares for individuals and families in need.
Co-workers of the month are Lenore Pedersen and Jo-Ann Walston. Lenore is a huge asset to our chapter. Jo-Ann, she is the Chapter's Musician this year, and attends our chapter meetings. Jo-Ann comes out during the week to help with the candy making and can always be counted on to bring cakes or covered dishes for any function that the lodge is hosting. . Lenore & Jo-Ann volunteer their time and cakes for the women's cake wheel, they help with bereavement lunches and they come out during the week to make candy. Thank you both for all you do for our chapter.
